TabTrade is a multi-asset CFD broker offering zero average spreads on major forex pairs across global market sessions. Including knowing when to trade, and when liquidity or volatility is likely to peak. Trading times are not static, and they change regularly with time-zone shifts and other factors. As such, we’ve outlined some general rules and specific hours for you below.
When Can I Trade with TabTrade?
We operate 24/7 to make sure you can get support or capitalize on trading opportunities. Within those hours, each asset will have different availability.
The best way to understand the current market hours of your favourite symbols is through the trading platform. We publish contract details real time that you can see when logged in. Including altered market hours from public holidays.
What are the Forex Market Hours?
One reason Forex is so popular is that it trades 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. This gives traders from all over the world a chance to find trading opportunities in their local session.
Generally, the FX market trades from 5pm New York time each Sunday to 5pm New York time each Friday.
For exotic FX pairs there are some exceptions to this. Therefore, we suggest checking the trading platform directly for the instruments you trade.
What are the Precious Metal Market Hours?
Precious metals, and particularly Gold, are popular for not just their volatility but their high availability. Our Precious Metals trade 23 hours, 5 days a week across the board. Only going down for trading when futures break for trading. Similar to FX, this makes them incredibly popular ways to express your trade ideas. You can take advantage of the exciting moves in these metals night or day.
What are the Cryptocurrency Market Hours?
Cryptocurrencies give you a new way to trade. Popularizing weekend trading, these assets let you trade any time during the week – even when the major markets shut down. In general, our crypto symbols trade 24/7 – meaning you can always find something to trade.
How do Trading Hours Work for Other Instruments?
Session times for other instruments vary, and the best place to check is within the trading platform itself.
- Shares typically follow when the exchange itself is trading, though some may include extended market hours.
- Indices can trade for extended hours, as they are based on futures pricing which continues after the exchange closes. Some of our indices trade almost all day, including the major US markets.
- Base Metals depend on the futures contracts used to price them, which means they typically trade less hours than Precious Metals. However, they are still available almost all day, letting you find opportunities when it suits you.
- Commodities vary widely in terms of trading hours. But the major energy contracts are usually available almost 24 hours a day, with only a small break after rollover when futures aren’t trading.
Daylight Savings, Holidays and Time-zone Changes
Daylight savings regularly impacts the hours you can trade, relative to your local hours. In particular, daylight savings changes in the US are the most consequential. This is because our daily candle close is based on the standard ‘New York Close’ at 5pm New York time. US DST changes alter our hours as measured by our server time, potentially impacting all symbols. We adjust our server time when US DST changes come into effect, to keep the trading day ending at 5pm New York time. In effect, this means that when the US is in Daylight Savings, our servers use UTC+3 timezone. Then, when the US exits Daylight Savings, we adjust our server time to be UTC+2.
Public holidays can affect market hours temporarily. In general, we will disable trading if a public holiday will interrupt trading for a particular symbol. As well as this, regional changes to time-zones and Daylight Savings Time alter when you can trade. Such as in Australia, Europe and the UK. This does not impact our overall server time-zone, but it does change the hours of individual markets from those areas. We try to keep our clients up to date with any changes such as this impacting your trading, but you should check the platform regularly.
What are the Main Trading Sessions?
Knowing the main trading sessions gives you insight into when trading activity and liquidity could change. The heaviest activity often happens when sessions overlap, such as London and New York. Additionally, this is often when news releases occur, making the effect even more pronounced.
Then main regional trading sessions are usually considered:
- Sydney: 7am – 4pm Sydney Time
- Tokyo: 9am – 6pm Tokyo Time
- London: 8am – 5pm London Time
- New York: 8am – 5pm New York Time
The actual times will differ depending on where you are, and if there are daylight savings hours in effect.
